Demystifying Governance
Level: 100
Track: End-User, Business
Deliver a governance strategy that drives adoption, and leads to innovation, engagement and better customer experiences. Learn how to convince your leadership team to understand the value of governance and their role in the process.
Governance. It's something that most companies talk about, but few know where to start. In fact, if we're being honest, most companies don't know exactly what governance is, especially as it relates to an Intranet or Digital Workplace. How critical is governance? It is one of the 3 key reasons why 60% - 80% of digital workplace projects are failing today.
What is governance and how do we apply this in our company? Where do we start? What's in a governance plan? How do we build a governance plan? Who do we involve in the process? Is it technology, policies, procedures, or all of the above?
In this session, we'll answer these questions and more, taking a fresh look at governance as it relates to your digital workplace. In fact, we'll start by going back to basics, understanding the purpose of governance, and then work our way up to developing a usable governance strategy - the keyword being usable. After all, governance is only good if it actually helps your company, right?
* Have a Digital Workplace Governance Workbook full of ideas to implement
* Know where to get started on your governance plan, and how it will evolve with your digital workplace project
* Have insights on getting your leadership on board with a governance plan that drives adoption and innovation

Optimizing SQL Server for SharePoint
Level: 300
Track: IT Pro
A vast majority of the content accessed via SharePoint is stored in SQL Server, and also knowing an incorrect configuration of SQL Server can have a detrimental impact on the performance of SharePoint it is important to understand the integration of these two products. Often DBA’s are familiar with how to manage SQL Server, but may not be familiar with some nuances that SQL Server has when integrated with SharePoint. In this session we will demonstrate how some default SQL Server settings negatively impact SharePoint and what changes can be made in SQL Server at both the instance and database level to improve the performance of SharePoint. This discussion will introduce the Best Practices framework that will allow your SharePoint administrator and/or your DBA to configure SharePoint and SQL Server to provide optimal performance for your SharePoint.
Managing Data Recovery in SharePoint
Level: 200
Track: IT Pro, End-User
SharePoint Server includes several content recovery options for SharePoint administrators, site collection administrators, and end users. Educating your users, and site collections and lighten the burden on your SharePoint farm administrators. Using Central Administration or PowerShell you can backup and restore your entire farm or components of your farm. You can also perform more granular content backups by exporting site collections, site, libraries, and list. SharePoint also provides the option of recovering site collections, sites, list and libraries from content databases that are no longer part of the SharePoint farm. With a vast majority of your SharePoint content stored in SQL Server it is imperative that you have an efficient way to recover items or entire databases as quickly as possible. This discussion will introduce the Best Practices framework that will allow your SharePoint administrator to configure SharePoint and SQL Server for quick content recovery minimizing the downtime and providing shorter yet achievable Service Level Agreements (SLA’s).

How Personality and Culture Determine Collaboration Success
Level: 100
Track: End-User, Business
Within Office 365, we have multiple methods for collaboration and communication – and yet with the rate of innovation coming from Microsoft these days, many organisations are struggling to understand which tools and capabilities to use, and when to use them. The fact is: different teams work in different ways. Within the modern digital workplace, there are many different “modalities” of collaboration — and the companies that understand and meet the evolving needs of their end users will have a competitive advantage.
In this keynote session by Microsoft RD & MVP Christian Buckley, we'll discuss how identifying and understanding your individual personality traits works best within your own organization can improve team dynamics -- and how individual personality and team culture impact the “Inner Loops” and “Outer Loops” workloads in Office 365.
By attending this session, you will better understand:
1. Microsoft’s “intelligent communications” messaging
2. How each workload works alone and together within key scenarios
3. Which tool to use when inside your own organization

Taking User Profiles to New Heights!
Level: 200
Track: IT Pro
How many of you know what User Profiles can do? When I typically ask that question I get responses such as: It connects to Active Directory so that properties can be synced into SharePoint so we can use that info (but not sure how), or the most popular, we can add pictures to our profile and other information that others can see. Both of those answers are true but only scratch the surface of what User Profiles can do in SharePoint and most importantly for your organization. I could talk for hours about all the great things that User Profiles can do, but, in addition to talking about it I’m going to show you all the things that a User Profile can do and how the functionality can improve meeting preparation, company bonding and getting to know more about the organization you work for. I won’t stop there either as we will also venture down the path of application integration and how it can streamline processes and limit human error in day to day processes. With the user of User Profiles you can be on your way to building that one stop shop for company information.
Areas that will be covered in this session:
· Deep Dive into a Profile
· Custom User Properties
· Active Directory Integration
· Search
· Social
· Building Moral & Bonding
· Get to know your Company
Some Quick Wins to Jump Start Your SharePoint Implementation
Level: 200
Track: IT Pro
The determination of success vs failure for all projects is whether or not what you have implemented is being utilized by the users. Better well known as User Adoption!! However, many wonder what can I do to make sure I’m giving the users what they want, what they didn’t know they needed but will make their job easier and something I like to call the “Plus A Little” and\or the WOW Factor! Quick wins are identified as things that are quick to do, take very little time to implement (low cost), and have a HUGE impact within the organization. In this session we are going to explore & build out different features within your SharePoint (O365 & OnPrem) environment that will make your SharePoint implementation the Rock Star of all projects ever implemented.

Using the technology you’re driving adoption on… to drive adoption is a best practice! But how is that done? Stop by for a helicopter ride on how to use Teams to drive adoption of Teams and SharePoint Online (SPO). We will “show and tell” how we deployed Teams in incremental releases, how we addressed learning and support, and how we handled governance etc. Expect an insight-packed learning experience based on a real-world case study (based on the GCC version of Teams and O365). Note: we will land that helicopter several times to show details of what capabilities and features of SPO and Teams were used to create the adoption solutions.

The future of SharePoint is the Modern UX
Level: 100
Track: IT Pro, End-User, Business
The game has changed and SharePoint's Modern user experience is here to stay. Companies using SharePoint Online may have found it frustrating over the past three years as Microsoft has slowly built a completely and dramatically new user interface for SharePoint, and deployed it piecemeal alongside the old Classic user experience. But today, the Modern UX is complete and ready for business, and it continues to get better and better, offering features and experiences that users of the Classic UX can only dream of. It's also no longer just for the cloud version of SharePoint, as SharePoint Server 2019 brings the Modern UX to the on-prem world as well. Classic isn't going anywhere—in the near future, at least—but Modern is here and it's the future, so if your company uses SharePoint, you need to know what the Modern UX is, how it's different from Classic, and what you'll need to do to begin taking advantage of it.
