Practical Strategies for SharePoint and Responsive Web Design
Level: 300
Track: IT Pro, Developer
With the ever growing number of internet connection devices from smart phones, tablets, touch friendly laptops to multi-monitor desktops, it is becoming more difficult to build custom SharePoint interfaces that are attractive and feature rich no matter the device. Responsive Web Design (RWD) and Adaptive Web Design (AWD) provide a solution to the multi-device world we live in today and there is no reason why these strategies won’t work for SharePoint as well. In this session we will start with a quick overview of RWD/AWD, followed by an in-depth look into their theory and how these techniques relate to SharePoint 2013/SPO. We will then dive into the code and walk through the process of designing responsive and attractive SharePoint web sites using the latest techniques in Responsive Web Design.
This technical session is geared towards web developers, programmers and IT to learn "how" to utilize and apply RWD, enhance SharePoint for modern internet devices, and create attractive, full featured web sites that utilize and work with SharePoint 2013/SPO rather than fighting against it and starting over. Attendees will not only be exposed to the concepts of what Responsive Web Design is and how it functions, but also the process for making a SharePoint site responsive. After a thorough review and multiple demos, attendees will understand the code and learn what to expect.
This session will focus on RWD/AWD and SharePoint, the primary topics being:
•    Understanding the core concepts of Responsive Web Design
•    The process of designing responsive SharePoint web sites
•    How to combine SharePoint and RWD principles

Real-World SharePoint … A Few Good Deployments
Level: 100
Track: End-User, Business, Office 365, SharePoint 101
SharePoint can do a lot of things. As an out-of-the-box (OOTB) product there are a lot of solutions that can be developed. But, there is an entire partner ecosystem that has grown up around and with SharePoint. These partners can make your SharePoint deployments more efficient, easier to use and often times more cost effective.

This session will highlight a few real-world deployments and will talk about some of the challenges related to OOTB functionality and how partners have filled gaps to add extended capabilities for things like scanning paper documents, adding workflow processes, declaring records and storing content for long term archiving. Customers in every market segment often end up needing one or more of these to provide a complete solution.

This is a business oriented session and will not dive into the details of how to configure SharePoint or how to integrate partner solutions. Attendees are encouraged to bring their ideas and business challenges. With time permitting we will talk about possibilities for building out your own Real-World SharePoint deployment.

The Walking Data – Build your own BI on Sharepoint
Level: 200
Track: IT Pro, Developer
We have all seen the demos of the Microsoft BI solutions. They are fantastic, but the fine print reveals that almost all of those solutions require enterprise licensing and that isn't an option for some companies. At Summit Materials, we overcame this same challenge and we want to pass that learning on to you.

This session will be an overview of a consolidated reporting platform we created using standard editions of SharePoint 2013 and SQL Server 2012. We will give a high-level overview of how we leverage SQL Server Integration Services to consolidate data from our various systems into a single data repository for reporting. We will then spend the bulk of our session on how we took that data and delivered it via SSRS reporting solutions on SharePoint. We will give insight into how we used SharePoint Permission models & Audiences combined with standard features available within Report Builder to create our reporting solution.
