AI - Business Breakthrough, Latest Fad, or the End of Humanity?
Level: 100
Track: Business
Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are the latest thing, and they have been for the last 60 years! Can AI deliver tangible business benefit this time round, or will it be followed by another winter of discontent? We'll look at some of the deep learning tools like Microsoft Cognitive Toolkit. Then we'll take a look at some of the powerful pre-built models that comprise Cognitive Services and see how much we can achieve in just a few minutes. Finally we'll take a look into the future of AI and machine learning and try to work out how relevant it is to solving practical business problems, the longer term implications, and some of the dangers.

It may not be too long before robots take over the world and we become enslaved to a race of Artificial Intelligence masters, but in the meantime we can at least enjoy the business productivity gains that automation brings us. Hasta la vista, baby!

Driving Microsoft Teams adoption with gamification using the Daily Bing Challenge Bot
Level: 100
Track:
Have you ever looked at the daily background on Bing or the version on your desktop? Did you stop and wonder where that beautiful landscape or haunting castle is? It happened at one organisation and soon became a daily challenge for the whole place. This convinced me to create the Daily Bing Challenge Bot as a way to drive adoption with Microsoft Teams, connecting people with what is possible in Teams through the challenge and inspiring them to use Teams for even more collaboration.
This talk will demonstrate the Bot itself and show how it can be used to gamify the adoption in an organisation.

How intelligent is your Digital Workplace?
Level: 300
Track: Developer
The buzzword "AI" is widely used for the fact that we don’t know it’s real potential yet.

This session (mainly live demo) starts with overview of intelligent features available in Office 365. We develop a basic understanding of what’s there in the out-of-the-box products and services and learn about Microsoft’s understanding of AI, the vision and roadmap.

In the second part, we spice up things and walk through a real-world demo on driving user adoption in Microsoft Teams in a more intelligent way. Based on data signals, usage behavior and machine learning, we support the user via a proactive bot and provide in context help in small and digestible learning bits.

Technologies like the Microsoft Graph, Azure Cognitive Services, Azure Machine Learning and Flow open up a whole new way of building business applications. Let’s get some inspiration.

I developed a SharePoint Framework solution, what to do next and how to install it by code?
Level: 200
Track: Developer
While SharePoint Framework being the upcoming trend in 2017 for the modern SharePoint landscape, SharePoint developers not only saw their tool belt being extended but there was also a shift becoming a modern developer. With modern development some new tools were introduced for the SharePoint developers, like Gulp, Yeoman, Npm,... Development is one thing, but deploying these solutions? That's another matter.

Uploading wsp files to SharePoint servers and deploying web applications for SharePoint Add-in's to Azure, are already known actions.
But with SharePoint Framework, code has to be deployed to a hosting service as an Azure CDN or a SharePoint CDN/Library and the app package has to be uploaded to the app catalog (like with SharePoint add-ins). Those are new things for the 'classic' SharePoint developers, as also installing solutions by the use the new Application Lifecyle Management API of SharePoint which makes it possible to deploy by code.

This session will provide an overview of the deployment options to Azure and SharePoint and will provide a demo intensive part by creating a deployment tool to install/uninstall/retract/upgrade your app on specific sites and on specific site collection catalogs.

Integrate Power Platform with SharePoint : an end-to-end real life scenario
Level: 200
Track: IT Pro, End-User, Business
In this session we will demonstrate how we can use the Power Platform (Power BI, Flow, PowerApps) to build a complete business solution with data store on SharePoint lists.

We will use as example a projects lifecylce site. It's a SharePoint Online site where we can manage the lifecycle of projects, from request, to approval, to development, to final review. A project requestor, such as a department head, requests an IT project by adding an item to a SharePoint list. A project approver, such as an IT manager, reviews the project, and then approves it or rejects it. If approved, the project is assigned to a project manager, and additional detail is added to a second list through the same app. A business analyst reviews current and completed projects using a Power BI report embedded in SharePoint. Microsoft Flow is used to send approval email and respond to Power BI alerts.

Productivity in an age of Collaboration
Level: 100
Track: End-User, Business
"I have so many things to do, and there are so many tools to help me "collaborate" with my colleagues. The problem is that I end up collaborating and not getting anything done."

A familiar sentiment that affects all of us when we have E-mail, Skype for Business, Microsoft Teams, Mobile Phones and colleagues to communicate with. We all feel the need to be accessible all of the time which means we get distracted and become less productive.

In this session I will share some best practices that could help you become more productive whilst not appearing to ignore your colleagues. All of the best practices are based on a combination of psychology and technology and even some common sense!

You will leave this session with ideas on how to use the technology effectively to allow you to balance your time between collaborating effectively and having times to focus and be more productive.

Troubleshooting SharePoint Online
Level: 300
Track: IT Pro
You decided to move your data to cloud and now what? First issue and you feel you are not in the control? At the end of the day, you have no way to access servers, logs and all the nice things you had on-premises.

Good news are, you are still in the control. In this session, we will go through the tools and methodologies which can help you identify the issues and bottlenecks yourself and also provide a solid ground when interacting with support engineers, if needed. After this session you will know what types of issues you can troubleshoot and address yourself and in which cases it is required to engage support engineering for further assistance.
Using Azure services to develop event receivers and timer jobs for SharePoint Online
Level: 300
Track: Developer
With SharePoint Online, the shift to client-side development is complete: the last possibility to deploy a server side code, through sandbox solutions with code, was disabled in summer 2016. With all the advantages that client-side development brings, we have also witnessed some of the disadvantages. Developing daemons, such as event handler and timer job equivalents, which was a huge part of traditional SharePoint development, was "left behind" in the client development world for a long time. Provider-hosted AddIns - with all its shortcomings - were the only way to get this done.

This changed recently: introducing webhooks in SharePoint Online, and Azure Functions as a part of Microsoft's Azure platform, give us necessary tools to tackle this issue. This development session will show how to develop the "timer job" replacements with Azure Functions, Azure Active Directory and app-only permissions. We will see how to emulate event handlers using webhooks and Azure Functions, using both App-Only permissions for "elevated privileges mode" or where the user identity is not important, or with delegated permissions where knowing the user identity is crucial.

What is the point of Meta Data?
Level: 200
Track: End-User, Business
For over 15 years there has been an ongoing battle to convince users to fill in metadata, is now the time to stop? In the blue corner is metadata sceptic Peter Baddeley who argues, that despite its merits, metadata is never going to be properly embraced by users and represents a barrier to adoption. In the red corner is Randy Perkins-Smart, an expert in information classification, who argues that metadata is essential to the successful implementation of SharePoint. Join us for a lively and interactive debate on the advantages and disadvantages of metadata.
What's New with the SharePoint Framework?
Level: 300
Track: Developer
You can build client-side web parts using the SharePoint Framework (SPFx) along with the open-source toolchain. The PnP-JS-Core library allows you to do a lot of work against the SharePoint REST API and Microsoft Graph with just a few lines of code - sometimes even a single line of code! ReactJS is a view library that allows you to build lightning-fast user interfaces using a powerful component model along with the Office UI Fabric React components that follow the design guidelines for SharePoint and Office. But now you can do so much more! We'll look at some of the latest extensions and possibilities for SPFx.
